We sought to visually capture both the ruggedness and natural beauty of the Philippines and the people who sell handmade goods for a living. It was important to have Filipino culture be prominently visible in the brand but to not caricaturize or romanticize the islands. Hand painted signage, natural colors, and textures from the Philippines played a heavy influence on the visual identity.
The space was built with the communal spirit and ingenuity of the Filipino marketplace as well as the comfort and hospitality of a Filipino family’s living room.
Coincidentally, we discovered that the same space of the Palengke Pop-up Shop happened to be the site of what was previously Manila Imports, a Philippine goods import shop that was in the space until at least 2009.
